Tour Itinerary

Day 0

We ask all walkers to please arrive the day before in Salento to acclimatise, have a virtual briefing and check that you have the right equipment for the activity.

Day 1

At 07:00 am we will start our day in a Jeep Willy on our way to Cocora Valley, the gateway to Los Nevados National Park, we will start our trek at 2,400 masl and enjoy the forest ecosystem. We will take a break for lunch and continue on a steep ascent until reaching 3,150 meters. In the afternoon we will arrive at our destination, la Argentina, a peasant farm located at 3,400 masl, we will share with the family, listen to stories and have a typical dinner, tonight's accommodation will be in basic dormitories with a shared bathroom (basic conditions).

Day 2

After taking a local breakfast, we will start our walk until we reach another farm well known by the majestic old pine close to it, called Buenos Aires, this will be a 3 km route, approximately 3 hours of walking, from here we will start an ascent with a big inclination until we reach the paramo ecosystem, weather depending we will be able to see the Nevado del Tolima, some eagles and different animals of the paramo.

Our path will be marked by descents and ascents crossing the Cárdenas River basin at 4,045 in the paramo ecosystem where we can see the Paramillo del Quindío, which rises in the background dressed in brown rainbows making a rugged contrast with the magic of its swamps, a landscape to admire in silence while our eyes light up. It is optional to walk 7 km more until we reach the base of the Paramillo del Quindío, a scenario of bright green colors, small and deep pictures of water, ribbons of moss that lead back to childhood, from this place we will see closely the remains of the snow that previously inhabited it and the volcanic rock formations that seem to have fallen from another planet.

Then we will start our way back to La Primavera farm where we will have dinner and spend the night in dormitories.

Day 3

We will take breakfast to start crossing the paramo ecosystem and get to Cerro la Virgen at 3,800 masl, from this point we say goodbye to the paramo ecosystem to continue to the Cocora Valley on a route surrounded by lush forest, we will make a stop at the Estrella de Agua farm at 3,150 meters and we will have a picnic.

We will continue the path for 9 km passing between the Aliso Forest and Andean Forest until we reach the Cocora Valley, from this point a jeep Willys will take us back to Salento where our trek ends.
