Was born in honour of the Colombian muleteer, that character who, together with a mule or pack animal, faced the harsh mountainous topography of Colombia to trade products, including sacks of coffee. The muleteer became the engine of economic development in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. With the passage of time came the bicycle, and it was so widely accepted in Colombia that today we see many farmers and enthusiasts riding bicycles, whether for work, transport, training or simply for the fun of it.
Cycling is part of us, of our coffee culture and we cannot detach it from history. Now we invite you to challenge yourself, experience the Coffee Cultural Landscape and conquer the paths of the arriero – “harvesting coffee on two wheels.
Our cycling adventure starts in Filandia Q, we will cross coffee, banana and avocado plantations during the journey until we reach the first municipality in the north of Valle del Cauca: Ulloa. We will pass by the Barbas River to reach the municipality of Alcalá and then climb to the crossroads of Pavas, to reach the Finca La Coqueta (Route: 47 km / + 1,463 m ↑ ascent / 04:00 Hr mov. Time).
At the Finca la coqueta, a magnificent place to enjoy and learn about coffee culture, surrounded by coffee plantations, banana plantations and a beautiful guadual, the Coffee Tour awaits us, an activity from the seed to the cup, sensory and barismo, where we will taste different special coffees and single origin coffees in various methods of preparation.
